Traditional faceted navigation applications have required an enormous amount of metadata to be added to content, either in the form of a catalog or adding metadata to stores of unstructured documents. However, there are applications such as text mining and vertical portals that have no catalog and no control over the publishing of documents and any associated metadata. This session looks at an approach that uses entity extraction to populate a set of facet dimensions for documents and categorization rules to automatically tag documents against a subject matter taxonomy. This approach leverages the best of human taxonomists and advanced entity extraction software to achieve success.
